UK Based M&S To Boost Apparel Imports From Bangladesh

Earlier, Bangladeshi exporters were not capable of producing value-added products, so it was sourced from other countries.

British retail giant Marks Spencer (MS) has decided to boost its apparel service after importing from Bangladesh.

Stephen Joseph Rowe, CEO of Marks and Spencer said, British Multinational Retailer Company Marks and Spencer will increase their imports from Bangladesh to one billion dollar.

Now, the garment owners are more proactive about protecting the production environment, but previously they were not. This is a big change in the garment sector, he added.

Siddiqur Rahman, President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters said, Its a new opportunity for Bangladesh, but we have to ensure delivery as per their expectation.

He also said, We hope in the future, MS will take more than billions from Bangladesh.

Shwapna Bhowmick, MS Country Manager said, Bangladesh has a lot of green factories. Even MS has been working with 12 green factories in the country.

Earlier, Bangladeshi exporters were not capable of producing value-added products, so it was sourced from other countries.

Bangladesh is no longer just a source of basic garment items. Bangladesh has also become a major hub for value-added products like formal dresses, mens suits, formal blazers, etc.

Currently, Bangladesh is supplying $800 million garments to Mark and Spencers each year.
