Square Pharma to set up manufacturing plant in Kenya

A major drug producer especially those that relieve digestive distress, such as anti-acids, digestive stimulants and anti-diarrheal medicine Square Pharmaceuticals covers a major chunk of the health caring portion of the Bangladeshi market.

Square Pharmaceuticals Limited, one of the major pharmaceuticals companies in Bangladesh, is all set to construct a factory in Kenyas Athi River, a town outside Kenyas capital Nairobi.

Nairobi-based daily, Business Daily reports the possible boost of Kenyas drug manufacturing profile in East Africa with the installation of this plant.

According to a report, in a ceremony which is scheduled to be attended by Kenyas Industrialization Secretary Adan Mohamed, Square Pharmaceuticals will commission the construction of the plant at the Export Processing Zone in Athi River.

Bangladesh over the decades has developed a strong base in the pharmaceutical industry, manufacturing up to 97% of the drugs used locally. According to the Square Pharmaceuticals the establishment of the Kenya plant will facilitate skills and technology transfer.
